Zhenyu Zhou, PhD – Founder, President and CEO

Dr. Zhou brings more than 15 years of management and R&D experience in US semiconductor industry to Mavrix. Prior to founding Mavrix Technology, Dr. Zhou was the Sr. Vice President of Digital Imaging business of ESS Technology Inc. (Nastaq: ESST), in charge of camera phone CMOS sensor and imaging signal processor business. Before that Dr. Zhou is the Vice President of Engineering of ESS, responsible for DVD servo, residential gateway and home networking product R&D. Dr. Zhou joined ESS in Feb. 2000 through ESS’s acquisition of NetRidium Communications, a venture capitalist backed start up company, founded by Dr. Zhou and two other co-founders in 1999. NetRidium, where he served as President and Chairman, developed one of the first chipset for phone line based home networking technology (known as HomePNA). Prior to founding NetRidium, he was the engineering manager for V. 90 and ADSL modem development in Rockwell Semiconductor/Conexant, as well as Rockwell’s ITU standard representative. He held 6 patents related to V.90 and other modem technology. Dr. Zhou obtained his Ph.D from University of Southern California and his MSEE and BS from Zhejiang University

 

Thomas Liau – Co-founder, VP of Engineering, GM of China R&D Center

Mr. Liau brings to Mavrix more than 12 years of experience in both digital communication and multimedia consumer electronics industries. As Sr. Director of Systems Engineering at ESS Technology, Mr. Liau successfully merged and led the Pictos / ESS systems team to complete the development of camera processor, image processing algorithms, and the camera modules. He played a key role in enabling the digital imaging business for ESS and captured critical CMOS camera design wins from leading manufacturers such as Samsung and LG. Mr. Liau also served as Director of Systems Engineering in charge of the home networking products development after ESS acquired NetRidium Communications, a company which he co-founded with Dr. Zhou. Prior to founding NetRidium, Mr. Liau worked in Rockwell Semiconductor / Conexant Systems and was a key contributor to Rockwell’s various high-speed modem products. Mr. Liau received his MSEE from University of California, Los Angeles.

 

Xuming Zhang, Ph.D. –Vice President of Engineering , U.S. Design Center

Dr. Zhang has over 20 years of experience in the field of digital signal processing (DSP) and digital communications, and has more than 8 years of experience at management level. Dr. Zhang holds over 15 U.S. patents in the same technical areas. Prior to joining Mavrix Technology in February, 2008, Dr. Zhang served as Director of DSP development at Mindspeed Technologies, Inc., responsible for advanced Voice-over-IP DSP algorithm development including advanced speech processing algorithms, Fax-over-IP (T.38) and Modem-over-IP (V.150.1) solutions. From 1996 until 2002,  Dr. Zhang held various technical positions such as Senior Staff Engineer,  Group Leader,  and Manager at Conexant Systems, formerly known as Rockwell Semiconductors, and was responsible for the development of  SHDSL/HDSL2/ADSL/ADSL2, and V.92/V.90/V.34 product lines. Prior to 1996, Dr. Zhang served as Senior Technical Staff at Aware Inc., responsible for ADSL and cable modem algorithm development.Dr. Zhang holds a B.S degree in Physics and M.S. degree in Acoustics from Nanjing University , Nanjing , China , and Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University , Boston , MA .

 

T.H. Lu – Co-founder, VP of Engineering, GM of US R&D Center

Mr. Lu has over 12 years of experience in multiprocessor, networking / communications, and multimedia SOC design. Mr. Lu used to work on an advanced display SOC for HDTV at Intel. Prior to that, he has been the processor core design lead of Vxtel (acquired by Intel), the chief architect of Netridium Communications (acquired by ESS), and a founding engineer of Cradle Technologies (chosen by EE times as one of the 2005’s most intriguing startups). In addition to his successful startup experiences, Mr. Lu was a key contributor of ASIC projects at established multimedia and communication companies such as Cirrus Logic, Electronics For Imaging, and Siemens Telecommunications. Mr. Lu received his MSEE from University of California, Los Angeles.

 

Ramon Liu – VP of Sales & Marketing

Mr. Liu graduated from Shanghai JiaoTong University in 1998 and join Actions Semiconductor C.O LTD. Mr. Liu was a Systems Design Engineer in Actions between August, 1998 and April, 2002. From April, 2002 to March, 2004, he was a Manager of Technical Service. Since March, 2004, Mr. Liu is a Director of Customer Service.

Mr. Liu has almost 10 years of experience in multimedia SOC design and Customer Service. Mr. Liu successfully led the Actions Customer Service team to complete their sales target. Mr. Liu is the expert of the communication and consumer electronics market in China. He played a key role in sales and customer service for Actions Semiconductor. Recently, Actions Semiconductor becomes the largest IC design Company in China. Also, Actions is the main supplier of the multimedia processor in the World.
